SVF Foundation will be hosting its Annual Visitors Day Saturday June 12, 2010. The public will take a self–guided tour through the historic site of Swiss Village and learn about SVF’s scientific mission.

SVF is a non–profit organization situated on a beautiful historic farm in Newport, RI. The mission of SVF is to preserve endangered breeds of livestock used for food and fiber. In collaboration with Tuft’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, SVF collects germplasm – semen and embryos – from rare breeds of cattle, sheep and goats. Germplasm is cryogenically frozen and placed in long term storage using liquid nitrogen, where it may remain for hundreds of years before being thawed and used to reawaken an extinct breed.

Though SVF is typically a closed site due to biosecurity, Visitors Day allows the community to see SVF’s livestock and speak directly with the SVF laboratory, veterinary and animal care staff. Several endangered breeds will be on display, along with professional sheep–shearing and cryogenic demonstrations on–going throughout the day.

For our 41°N Card holders, we would like to invite you to enjoy shuttle service to and from SVF from Forty 1° North, together with brunch before or after your visit at Christie’s. We will provide shuttle service from the Forty 1° North campus to the farm from 10:00am – 4:00pm. The cost of brunch and shuttle service is $25.00 and includes free parking in our lot.
