George Wein’s 51st Annual Folk Festival: July 30 – August 1/ Fort Adams State Park
The lineup for the 51st annual Newport Folk Festival has been announced, and it’s a good one. This year’s show will feature acts like Steve Martin (yes, the actor), playing banjo with a bluegrass quintet at the Tennis Hall of Fame; Yim Yames, a.k.a. frontman Jim James of My Morning Jacket; alternative/country wailer Brandi Carlile; the eclectic sounds of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros; skilled whistler Andrew Bird; Tao Rodriguez–Seeger, who is Pete Seeger’s grandson and a talented singer in his own right; and many more musicians both old and young.

Newport WineFest: August 20–22/ Newport Yachting Center
Just when you think the summer activities start to wind down, there comes the largest outdoor wine and food festival in New England, the Newport Wine Fest. This one–of–a–kind event will offer an ultimate wine and food experience with tastings from hundreds of world – class wines, spirits, specialty beers and gourmet dishes prepared by the finest local and regional chefs.
