We love this time of year! The snow. Snuggling by the fire. And of course, sharing the tastes of the season. Here are a few of our favorite things about Newport winters:
Hot Chocolate
Topped with whipped cream and chopped nuts, drizzled with caramel, or garnished with chocolate shavings from Newport Chocolates on William Street &ndash this winter treat warms us from the inside out.
Curling up to watch a DVD at home
One of our favorite winter pastimes, we’re all too happy to curl up by the fireplace and get lost in a great film. Recently added to our movie library and voted a Golden Globes winner is Julie & Julia. It’s a charming movie about Julia Child’s start in the cooking profession, intertwined with blogger Julie Powell’s challenge to cook all the recipes in Child’s first book.
Homemade Soups
Our culinary team agrees: soups and stews are the tastiest way to stock up on winter veggies. Vegetable soup and homemade tomato soup are staples this time of year, and we can’t resist a hearty stew. Here’s a recipe from our kitchen to yours: Black Bean Soup.
Planning a Vacation
This time of year, a tropical getaway is calling our name. But hurry back, our gates will open soon. |
